According to reports, Romelu Lukaku is set to get a two-year, £43 million contract offer from Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal this summer.
If the transfer is granted, Lukaku would become the most well-known player to join the Saudi Pro League since the legendary striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr following his disputed exit from Manchester United in December.
Lukaku’s loan spell at Inter Milan will expire, and despite his wish to stay at Inter, the striker is anticipated to return to Chelsea.
The striker, who spent £98 million to join Stamford Bridge in August 2021, left in dubious circumstances last summer after telling Italian media he planned to leave no later than six months after his arrival.
Lukaku met with Al-Hilal personnel in Saudi Arabia on Monday to discuss the possibility, although it is expected that he will only leave European sport for a more lucrative agreement.
Chelsea is ready to let Lukaku leave but will demand at least £43 million for his departure, which is less than half of what they spent for him two seasons ago.
According to the report, Al-Hilal will negotiate with Chelsea chairman Todd Boehy to lower the asking price since they are unwilling to meet the Blues’ demand.
Following a disastrous season in which they finished 12th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for Europe, the Stamford Bridge management is ready to rebuild their team for the coming season.
Ronaldo cleared the path for other European sportsmen to play in the Saudi Pro League by signing a lucrative contract with Al-Nassr in January for £173 million per year.
