Beyond the Algorithm: Why Human Judgment in Hiring Will Always Prevail

By Dhruv Yadav, Managing Director, GETARO HR Management LLP

The world of recruitment is evolving at an unprecedented pace. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), the way we evaluate candidates has become increasingly data-driven. These technologies promise efficiency, speed, and precision, filtering through thousands of resumes in seconds based on pre-set keywords and algorithms.

Yet, as someone who has spent years in the trenches of talent acquisition and human capital management, I remain unconvinced that AI, for all its computational brilliance, can truly replace the human touch in hiring.

The Flawed Premise of ATS-Based Hiring

I have seen extraordinary candidates being overlooked simply because their resumes lacked the right buzzwords or weren’t formatted in a way that appeased an ATS platform. Does that mean they were any less competent? Absolutely not.

A resume is, at best, a snapshot of a candidate’s professional journey—a two-dimensional document attempting to capture the depth of their expertise, potential, and passion. It is inherently limited. Yet, today, we are allowing algorithms to dictate which resumes get a second glance and which are discarded before a human eye even sees them.

This is deeply concerning because hiring is not about processing data—it’s about understanding people.

The Human Element: What AI Cannot Measure

Over the years, I have personally interviewed candidates whose CVs did not do justice to their capabilities. One particular case stands out vividly in my memory.

We were looking for a highly specialized role in manufacturing quality assurance, and among the applicants, there was a candidate whose resume seemed mediocre at best. The formatting was poor, the descriptions lacked sophistication, and crucial industry jargon was missing—by AI standards, his resume was a sure rejection

But something told me to dig deeper.

When we brought him in for an interview, what unfolded was remarkable. His depth of knowledge, hands-on experience, and problem-solving mindset far exceeded many of the “perfect” resumes we had seen. He wasn’t just good—he was the best fit for the role. Had we relied solely on AI, we would have lost a brilliant mind simply because his resume wasn’t ATS-optimized.

This experience reaffirmed what I have always believed: the best candidates don’t always have the best resumes.

Authenticity Over Keywords: The Future of Recruitment

A significant chunk of professionals today are still unaware of how ATS systems work. They may be experts in engineering, R&D, sales, or finance, but they are not professional resume writers. They may lack the right “SEO keywords” that an ATS scans for—but should that define their career trajectory?

Talent is not a collection of keywords. Talent is authenticity, skill, and human potential.

At GETARO HR Management, we refuse to be dictated by cold algorithms alone. We value human instincts, intuition, and real conversations. We believe that:

Every candidate deserves the opportunity to present themselves beyond a document.
The most exceptional talents don’t always fit into a predefined ATS mold.
Recruitment is about people, not just profiles.

HR’s Greatest Strength: The Power of Human Emotion

GETARO HR

In a world increasingly obsessed with automation, let us not forget the irreplaceable role of human connection in HR. The ability to listen, understand, empathize, and assess beyond the data—these are skills no machine can replicate.

Technology should be an aid, not a replacement for human judgment. An algorithm can read a resume, but it cannot read ambition. It cannot detect passion in a candidate’s voice or recognize the determination behind their journey

At GETARO HR, we choose to look beyond the screen. We embrace technology, but we prioritize people. Because at the end of the day, we are hiring human beings—not robots.

Final Thoughts

As businesses navigate the complexities of modern recruitment, I urge every hiring manager, HR leader, and recruiter to remember: that an ATS can filter candidates, but it cannot discover them.

The future of hiring must be a balance—a fusion of technology and human expertise. In our relentless pursuit of efficiency, let us not forget the magic of human potential that cannot be quantified by mere algorithms.

Let’s choose people over programs, depth over data, and authenticity over automation. Because the strongest companies are not built by AI—they are built by people who believe in people.
